About Us

Welcome to the Public Health Program of Brown University's Division of Biology and Medicine.

The Public Health Program coordinates and integrates academic, research, and public service programs relevant to population health.

Public Health educational programs include undergraduate concentrations in community health and biostatistics; the fully accredited MPH Program; a master of science in biostatistics; and doctoral programs in epidemiology, biostatistics and health services research. There are three post-doctoral training programs funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Research is focused in 10 highly productive, multi-disciplinary centers and institutes, with over $42 million in funding.

The Program benefits from its connection to Rhode Island's only school of medicine and from its strong ties to the Rhode Island Department of Health and provides substantial public service activities to organizations, agencies, and residents throughout the state and region.

The Program is thus a point of convergence for public health-related activities throughout Brown, Alpert Medical School, and local and national governmental, public, and private entities with a public health interest. The Program's faculty and students strengthen these community relationships by helping translate research findings into policy and practice.
