MPH Program Admissions

We seek candidates who are intellectually curious, highly motivated, and committed to the study of public health. Students from a variety of backgrounds and fields of study are welcome to apply. The Admissions Committee for the MPH Program is composed of public health professionals with experience in public health research and practice.

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree, as well as experience and/or interest in public health. Admission requires evidence of quantitative abilities and a commitment to public health through previous course work, independent study, and/or experience.

AB/MPH

The 5-year AB/MPH Degree is a rigorous program in professional public health education open to Brown undergraduates.  As undergraduates in the AB/MPH program, students concentrate in Community Health, must qualify for the Honors Track and successfully complete an Honors Thesis.

Students can apply to the AB/MPH program in the second semester of their sophomore year or during their junior year. Application to the AB/MPH is done through the Graduate School, with review done by the MPH Admissions Committee.

MD/MPH

Students interested in the MD/MPH program must apply separately to Alpert Medical School and to Brown University’s Graduate School. Regardless of the route of admission to the medical school— PLME, Standard, EIP, Postbaccalaureate, Advanced Standing (LINKS for each) —all students are eligible to apply for the MPH at the time of their medical school application or during the first three years at the Alpert Medical School.

There is no formal path for non-Brown medical students to enroll in the 5-year MD/MPH Program. However, medical students from other schools are welcome to apply to the MPH Program through the standard route and they may request that up to 4 courses from their medical school curriculum count toward the MPH degree.

Applications should be completed online through the Graduate School website.
